The 37th meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, MNA, to consider and discuss the Ratification of International Treaties Bill, 2013 (Private Member, Bill) moved by Dr. Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari, MNA.
The Chairman explained that this meeting was specifically called for the consideration of a private member bill moved by Dr. Shireen Mehrunnisa Mazari, and invited the mover and the other members besides the views of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Division and Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights.
All the participants were given the opportunity to comment and present their opinion on the proposed bill throwing light on its importance, objectives as well as legal implications if any. Moreover, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cabinet were specifically asked to explain the present procedure and steps in detail at each stage and their opinion about the proposed bill in order to understand the scope and intention of the mover for increasing the parliamentary oversight on this particular aspect of the foreign policy in the best public interest while comparing best international practices. The Chairman requested the mover to redraft the text of the bill highlighted during the meeting and submit the same for consideration in the next meeting.
