Chabahar and Gwadar ports to be jointly visited by members of Foreign Affairs Committees

Chairman Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs Mr. Awais Leghari welcomed Mr. Allaudin Boroujerdi, Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Policy and National Security of Iran.  Mr. Boroujerdi invited Chairman Leghari to attend the Conference on Palestine in Tehran in February 2017 and reciprocated sentiments to further the relationships between the two countries.

The Chairmen were joined by members of the Committees who addressed issues of mutual interests and held frank discussions regarding areas of concern. Mr. Awais Leghari said that a positive outcome of the meeting was the resolve of both sides to make Gwadar and Chabahar Ports complementary to each other and to coordinate a joint trip of respective committee members for a visit to each facility so that attention could be drawn towards making both ports a success in the future.

Mr. Boroujerdi who was accompanied by Iranian ambassador Mr. Mehdi Honardoost, lauded Pakistan’s role in the Muslim Ummah. When the Iranian Chairman brought up the issue of Yemen, Leghari assured him that the Pakistan’s advice for all countries has been to resolve differences through dialogue and that war does not yield the benefits in the same manner as dialogue.

Leghari further appreciated Iran’s offer to mediate between Pakistan and India on the issue of Kashmir. He said that India’s role against Muslims of Kashmir is no less than Israel’s Zionist policies and the resolution of Palestine and Kashmir issues would make the world a more peaceful place.

Discussing security matters, Leghari said sectarianism is also a great concern for the Muslim Ummah for which we all needed to work together. Other issues under discussion included the need for expediting Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, health tourism, and increasing people to people contact.

The meeting was also attended by MNAs Mr. Sahibzada Muhammad Nazeer Sultan, Dr. Nafisa Shah, and Mr. Muhammad Khan Daha who exchanged pleasantries with the visitors.
