Geneva, 7 September 2016: The Special Envoy of the Prime Minister on Jammu & Kashmir and Chairman Standing Committee of National Assembly on Foreign Affairs, Mr. Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari met Dr. Joanne Liu, the International President of the Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) today and briefed her about the alarming health situation and conditions of those impacted by the use of pellet guns by Indian occupation forces in IOK. He requested MSF to ascertain the medical and other requirements of the injured and those affected by the repressive measures in IOK. He stressed the need for the provision of medical supplies and trained personnel in IOK.
He also met some Western Ambassadors to brief them about the worsening human rights situation in IOK.
The Special Envoy also raised the issue of the grievous violations of human rights and humanitarian law committed by Indian security forces with a group of OIC Ambassadors. He thanked OIC member states for their consistent support for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He also thanked OIC Secretary-General for his support, encouragement and promotion of the Kashmir cause, which is a source of strength for the people of Jammu & Kashmir. The activities of the OIC Contact Group in Kashmir were highlighted and the importance of implementing the OIC Resolutions on assistance to Kashmiri people was also underscored.
The OIC Permanent Representatives to UN reiterated OIC support to the Kashmir issue.
