Pakistan is a water scarce country. Wastage of water is unaffordable. Non productive and barren land cannot be irrigated unless new dams and infrastructure are invested into. Underground water is being exploited by the farmers through higher energy cost and therefore efficient irrigation systems are important to utilize this expensive water in the most economical manner.

I tried to irrigate 10 acres of watermelon crop with one underground tube-well water in the desert on flood irrigation. Failed miserably.

Introduced drip irrigation system with the same water source and I am now sustaining a 100 acre citrus and crab apple orchard very successfully. Less water, more area under cultivation and the best results in terms of yield and quality.

A greener and more productive Pakistan can come about through innovative technologies and efficient usage of water.
